Description

I’ve said it many times, but without a doubt Paris was one of the most picturesque places I’ve been. There’s just an unusual harmony to Paris architecture. Even though it spans the ages, it all seems to fit together just right. One can certainly tell that there’s been thought to the aesthetics in the old world bridges and architecture of that gorgeous city.

Seen in this print is a view across Le Pont Royal to the famous Louvre on the Quai des Tuileries. Along the banks of the Seine, everything you see has history. The late 17th century bridge is the third oldest in all of Paris, built in the French Renaissance style. Its design was apparently well ahead of its time being copied many times over in 18th century bridges. It connects the left and right banks of the Seine. On the right bank opposite, we see the Neo-Baroque Pavillon de Flore which today houses L’Ecole du Louvre. This section of the Louvre was built in the 17t century to connect the Louvre with the Palais des Tuileries. The Tuileries is a piece of Paris architecture lost in the revolutions.

Interestingly I’ve read that there has been some discussion for quite some time about rebuilding the Palais des Tuileries for aesthetic reasons – that its absence has left a hole in the Paris cityscape surrounding the Louvre. I think it’s fascinating that over a century has passed and this is being discussed at all!. It really illustrates just how important Paris architecture really is to the people who live there!

And it illustrates why I still feel Paris is an incredibly special city. It’s just one scenic vista after another in the ancient heart of this city. Have you experienced the old world beauty of Paris as well? Or do you simply adore the classic look and feel of Paris architecture?

Note: The Banks of the Seine are rightly so a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site owing to the landmark architecture that survives to this day.
