Picturesque English Countryside – Wiltshire Art Print

Years ago, on my first trip to London, I was only there for only a short time. I had never traveled outside the US before and decided to make the first trip a short one. Of course I loved it and wished that I had more time. You could see that one coming couldn’t you?

Happily, on that first trip, my one day-out to see Stonehenge included the chance to experience Avebury and the English Countryside. As a result, this is still how I envision the English countryside, with idyllic meadows and sheep. And of course, incredible green grass and postcard-perfect skies. That first visit set the tone for the rest!

This landscape print is actually from a later visit to the village of Avebury. As luck would have it, in late summer, the countryside seemed even more beautiful. This scene from that visit is one that I still believe is the definition of bucolic and pastoral. Of course, I was in Avebury to see the large stone circle (again), but there’s more than one side to Avebury and this is the aspect of Avebury that is the epitome of the English Countryside.

When I look at this Wiltshire print, I’m still reminded of my first experience with the English countryside. It feels so far removed from the hustle and bustle of London. There’s a quiet charm in that grassy meadow and the grazing sheep. It almost feels as if life here has stayed as it has been for generations before. There’s a timeless quality to the English countryside, for sure. I guess the same could be said for the countryside in many places but England seems to have cornered the market on the quaint charm of the countryside.
