Tybee Island Lighthouse – Georgia Coast Art Print by Mark Tisdale

On my first morning on the Georgia Coast, I made a beeline for Tybee Lighthouse. I had seen the historic light the night before, so this was my first daylight view of the towering and historic light station. The soft morning light in this print really accents the lines of Tybee Lighthouse and the late 19th century lighthouse keeper’s cottage. The skies above were a deep dawn blue with white clouds streaking through. Tybee Lighthouse was an obvious must visit, but the preservation of not just the light but the support buildings that surround it made for a great first morning exploring Tybee. It’s funny what the power of suggestion can be, just looking at this I can smell the cool sea air again. How about you?

There has been a lighthouse on Tybee Island since 1733. Its construction was ordered by James Edward Oglethorpe, the father of the Georgia colony. The first two lights were built near the water and met a quick end. The third lighthouse on the island was built behind the dunes but damaged in the Civil War. This light, the current one, was built in the post war years and used the lower 60 feet of the previous light as its base.

Although a major tourist stop today, the light itself is still maintained by the coast guard as an aid to navigation. I have to admit it was great fun to visit and capture Tybee Lighthouse and, of course, to climb it. Even if I did get a moment or two of vertigo when I saw how truly high that light is!

Hope this print might be a special memento of a visit to Tybee for you as it is for me!

How Can I Help?

At the end of the day, it’s important to me that you can put a face with the art you’re considering purchasing through my site. Aside from the print vendor who ultimately prints and ships your order, this is a one man show. The person who made the art is the same one who is typing this message and the one who will answer your questions if you drop me a note.

You are not a number and I care that you are happy with whatever art you might buy here. I’m here if you’d like to ask questions before or after purchasing. And I’m also happy to work with you where possible to customize the work you’re buying. Maybe you’d like a tweak to the shape of a print to fit in with your existing wall art. Or you’d like to add a little nod to someone special in it? Just ask! I also keep a running list of subjects I don’t currently have but people are seeking. So if you enjoy the style of my work but didn’t find quite what you were looking for, please do let me know.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years now and most of that time it’s been my full-time passion. And it matters to both the endorphins in my brain and the food I put on the table for me (and my cats) that you find the experience of purchasing the products offered here to be a pleasure.
