About This Image

Sun Studio – Birthplace of Rock Music Canvas Print by Mark Tisdale.

This birthplace of rock music canvas print features none other than the famous Sun Studio. The historic Memphis landmark depicted is where Elvis Presley, among many others, pioneered Rock ‘n’ Roll music in the 1950’s.

Sun Studio opened its doors in January of 1950 at 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. It was initially known as the Memphis Recording Studio but shared the building with Sun Records. What would become known in due time as Sun Studio is credited with the first rock and roll recording. Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats recorded that single – “Rocket 88” in 1951. It was a place that over the next two decades saw the likes of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Charlie Feathers, Ray Harris, Warren Smith, Charlie Rich, and Jerry Lee Lewis. And it wasn’t just Rock music. Country, R&B, and Blues greats also cut records at Sun Studio in those golden years of music in the mid 20th century.

Sam Phillips sold the record label in 1969 and the studio was closed for a number of years but never forgotten. Sun Studio was later re-born and today’s artists have recorded under the same roof as the legends of the past. And Sun Studio has become something of a mecca for people visiting musical Memphis today.

I came up with the concept of this square format canvas print because I thought it would complement a wall decorated with vintage vinyl album art. I pictured mostly smaller prints being purchased but as is often the case, some of you have surprised me by buying large canvas prints. Perhaps as a memento of a music history pilgrimage to Memphis, Tennessee to see Sun Studio?

Canvas Prints – Product Information

Stretched canvas prints are a great choice for decorating your home or office. Canvas art is a classic choice that is at home in traditional and modern decor alike.

After the purchase of your canvas print, it is made to your order. The artwork is printed on an acid-free poly/cotton blend canvas. The use of archival inks and substrate means that your canvas art print should last a lifetime without fading or loss of color.

When ordering your print, you have a choice between glossy and matte finishes. While I ordinarily love matte finishes on prints, I do like the sheen that comes on glossy canvas prints. Ultimately I would suggest letting the amount of light in your space guide your choice. In a brightly lit environment, I would lean towards a matte finish to reduce the chance of glare.

There are three wrap styles to choose from for canvas prints. The mirrored wrap choice mirrors and extends the image to the sides of the canvas wrap (without losing any of the original artwork on the front). The majority of the time I would suggest this is the best choice. The other two options are a solid black wrap or white wrap. You can see a preview of each option when selecting wrap color.

After printing, the canvas is stretched over and secured to a wooden frame of 1.5″ by 1.5″ stretcher bars. The entire production process takes from 5 to 7 business days. Your artwork will arrive in sturdy packaging. The hanging wire will be attached and all hardware necessary to hang your canvas print will be included. Canvas prints are a great ready-to-hang option.

How Can I Help?

At the end of the day, it’s important to me that you can put a face with the art you’re considering purchasing through my site. Aside from the print vendor who ultimately prints and ships your order, this is a one man show. The person who made the art is the same one who is typing this message and the one who will answer your questions if you drop me a note.

You are not a number and I care that you are happy with whatever art you might buy here. I’m here if you’d like to ask questions before or after purchasing. And I’m also happy to work with you where possible to customize the work you’re buying. Maybe you’d like a tweak to the shape of a print to fit in with your existing wall art. Or you’d like to add a little nod to someone special in it? Just ask! I also keep a running list of subjects I don’t currently have but people are seeking. So if you enjoy the style of my work but didn’t find quite what you were looking for, please do let me know.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years now and most of that time it’s been my full-time passion. And it matters to both the endorphins in my brain and the food I put on the table for me (and my cats) that you find the experience of purchasing the products offered here to be a pleasure.
