About This Image
The longer I’ve traveled, the more I’ve realized that trips are never what we expected. The highlights are almost always not what we planned. When I scheduled my trip to Egypt, the side trip to the Sinai peninsula looked interesting, but if you had asked me what I was excited to see, it was temples and tombs, not beach sands. But after a week of ancient wonders, as awesome as they were, this Red Sea beach on the Sinai peninsula was absolutely what the doctor ordered.
In fact it was so relaxing in that little slice of paradise on the Sinai Peninsula that I have only a handful of prints to show from my time there. But those Sinai prints really captured the raw beauty of Nuweiba. This beach print is from one of our mornings on that Red Sea beach. I think I was virtually the only tourist who had emerged from my beach hut to see the sunrise. It was just that laid back. I spent some time capturing the sun coming over the sea and this beautiful vista of the mountains behind our huts which were bathed in warm light.
What still amuses me about this Sinai Peninsula print is the beautiful texture of that beach. Look at all the footprints on the beach. One of the main reasons I captured this perspective was that I loved how the footprints told the story of the people staying there. And literally moments after I took this photo, the crew who ran the Sawa camp at Nuweiba showed up to sweep the beach. Within a few minutes, they had erased the footprints, leaving pristine sands behind for the rest of the camp to encounter when they got up later that morning.
I will never forget those few short days on this Red Sea Beach on the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. And when I look at this beautiful print today, I can still feel the stresses of the day melt away. There’s a zen feeling that permeates this print that I somehow captured that morning. Do you feel it too?
Have you perchance stayed on a Red Sea beach, too? Or perhaps this print soothes your nerves as well? I would love to hear what you find most striking about this dawn beach print?
