Spiritual Artwork Print – Child Of The Universe

This new spiritual artwork print is a perfect example of how often I start one thing and find unexpected inspiration for something else. My latest piece was originally meant to be just a backdrop behind the text for Max Ehrmann’s poem Desiderata. I recently had someone ask if I had a print for this poem which is apparently one of their favorite. I had seen it off and on over the years but I don’t tend to do a lot of word art. I have a really hard time mixing visual with text. I do have a few examples so occasionally the mood does strike but it’s rare.

While I think the original version is great, when I was done, I kept finding myself looking back at the backdrop and thinking I have to do something else like this. I loved how it captures the feeling of one line from Desiderata: “You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.” That line has a very Zen Buddhist vibe to it for me. And what’s more it reminds me of Carl Sagan and his documentary that talks about how we are all “star stuff.” The idea that we and everything around us are made of the same dust from stars gives me an incredible sense of balance.

That was the same balance I felt when I looked at the inspiration piece for this spiritual artwork print. I love the feeling of harmony, balance, and quite simply happiness that radiates from this piece. Rather than starting over with something entirely new, I decided to pick up where I left off. There was no reason I couldn’t offer a variation on the original theme without the words to the Desiderata on it, eh?

Every time I look at the final piece, the end result of the metamorphosis from backdrop to a solitary piece of spiritual artwork, I feel a warmth. Not just from the lovely orange glow of the sun, but from the feeling of oneness and harmony. Everything just feels right when I look at this piece. How does it feel for you?

You can see the version with the Desiderata verses on it also on my site here.
