About This Image

Every trip should include unexpected moments, places or experiences we didn’t plan on seeing or doing. Variety is the spice of life as well as art.

One of those unexpected places I saw on my last day in England was the Cambridge American Cemetery and War Memorial. I had honestly never heard of this cemetery, but it’s the resting place of over 3,000 Americans and a memorial to those brave soldiers who went missing during the course of WWII. Pictured here in this black and white print is the field of Christian crosses that stand over our American dead on those distant shores.

Places like the Cambridge American Cemetery are truly sobering, but it’s important to remember the cost of war. I feel this image really captures the mood. There’s a still quietness that is infused with the atmosphere of war-time cemeteries.

I’m not sure I can put that feeling into words, but I hope I’ve managed to convey it with this print…

Have you been to the Cambridge American Cemetery? Or perhaps your family has a loved one who is remembered there?
