Black And White Art

While there is no question that I am far more well known for my colorful artwork, there’s something about the simplicity of black and white art that speaks to me. And I know that I can’t be alone because black and white art is so often a popular choice to decorate with.

Is it because black and white art is by its nature neutral such that it goes well with so many different styles of home decor? Or is it that people love the feel of monochrome art? I’m honestly not sure. I know for my part there’s something about stripping away color. It reveals the lines of an object the way an illustration might. Instead of concentrating on the color of things it brings my eyes to the physical aspect of the subject of the art. I fine that black and white art is especially suited to architecture precisely because it accents the architectural details.

Do you feel the same about monochrome art?

  • Egyptian Ruins Print by Mark Tisdale - Abu Simbel

Egyptian Ruins at Abu Simbel – Ancient Egypt Art Prints

    $24.00

The ancient Egyptian ruins at Abu Simbel are notable for many reasons. Ramses II reigned for over 60 years, a period in which he built temples and cities on…

  • Ramses The Great - Abu Simbel Sculpture - Black and White Print by Mark Tisdale

Ramses The Great – Face of Ozymandias Art Print

    $24.00

It was a long dark ride to see Abu Simbel, one of the ancient temples built to honor Ramses The Great. It’s worth noting that of all the pharaohs of Egypt, Ramses II was the only one to be styled The Great. And in his nearly seven decade rule, he certainly left behind a monumental…

Iconic Saint Peter’s Square – Vatican Art Print

    $24.00

I will never forget my ascent to the top of Saint Peter’s during my trip to Rome. There was an enthusiastic electricity in the air of the crowd I climbed with. Ancient Neolithic Dolmen – Lanyon Quoit – Cornwall Art Print

This dramatic black and white print features Lanyon Quoit, a Neolithic dolmen in Cornwall. I’ve read that this ancient structure was likely a chamber tomb of some sort. North Berwick Celtic Cross – Black and White Art Print

That opportunity more than fit the bill for my final day in Scotland. This black and white print shows a beautiful…

Brooding Gothic Beauty – Holyrood Art Print

There’s just something about old castles and stormy skies that speak to me in black and white art prints. I think the 17th century baroque architecture of Holyrood Palace, pictured here, looks even more mysterious and brooding with this graphic black and white treatment. I would believe this was a vintage Gothic print if I…
