About This Image

Visiting the Teotihuacan Ruins was an amazing experience. Like I suspect most who have been, I will never forget climbing both the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. The climb to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun was by far the more taxing, but it was the nearly aerial view from the Pyramid of the Moon seen in this print that was, to me, the most amazing sight.

It was the view of Teotihuacan from the Pyramid of the Moon where I had the clearest concept of the scale of the sacred landscape at this ancient Mesoamerican site. According to our guide at the Teotihuacan ruins, it’s believed that the pyramids were built to mirror the surrounding landscape. The thought being that the landscape that surrounding these ancient people was sacred to them and they recreated it on a comparatively smaller scale to create a ceremonial center for their religion. And sure enough as you gaze down the Avenue of the Dead, doesn’t the mountain in the distance reflect the general shape of the Pyramid of the Sun?

Ultimately, we mainly have theories about the people who built this ancient temple complex around two millennia ago. The ruins of their world feel abstract by today’s standards but these pyramid temples that started with the even earlier Olmecs would be repeated again and again in subsequent Mesoamerican cultures. And long after the decline and collapse of Teotihuacan those later cultures would say that the sun and the moon were born here in this magical place.

This view of the Avenue of the Dead at Teotihuacan felt so classic to me that I took this print of those ancient ruins in a very vintage style. It feels to me like an old postcard view or travel poster that would have invited travelers in the early 20th century to see these amazing Mexican ruins!

Have you seen them? Or do you love the indigenous cultures of the Americas from afar? Whatever brings you here, I hope you might share what you find most striking about this Teotihuacan art print?

How Can I Help?

At the end of the day, it’s important to me that you can put a face with the art you’re considering purchasing through my site. Aside from the print vendor who ultimately prints and ships your order, this is a one man show. The person who made the art is the same one who is typing this message and the one who will answer your questions if you drop me a note.

You are not a number and I care that you are happy with whatever art you might buy here. I’m here if you’d like to ask questions before or after purchasing. And I’m also happy to work with you where possible to customize the work you’re buying. Maybe you’d like a tweak to the shape of a print to fit in with your existing wall art. Or you’d like to add a little nod to someone special in it? Just ask! I also keep a running list of subjects I don’t currently have but people are seeking. So if you enjoy the style of my work but didn’t find quite what you were looking for, please do let me know.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years now and most of that time it’s been my full-time passion. And it matters to both the endorphins in my brain and the food I put on the table for me (and my cats) that you find the experience of purchasing the products offered here to be a pleasure.
