About This Image

War Eagle Supper Club – Auburn Landmark 5×7 Greeting Card by Mark Tisdale.

This Auburn landmark greeting card features the legendary War Eagle Supper Club. It seems like most college towns have their own special gathering spot, a special bar or club where students hang out. For decades, an Auburn tradition was the War Eagle Supper Club on South College Street. I’ve heard from more than a few people over the years that not only did they party at the Supper Club, so did their parents or grandparents before them. It was a tradition that probably ranked up there close to rolling the oaks on Toomer’s Corner.

What makes this War Eagle Supper Club greeting card even more poignant is that it depicts a place that exists in memories now. The old Supper club closed its doors on December 31, 2015. Apparently the lease ran out and the property owner had other plans. Sadly it’s not surprising, even when I was in Auburn in the mid 90’s, South College was booming with new businesses. I haven’t been back to Auburn since the demolition so it’s honestly still hard to imagine it’s no longer standing.

I wanted this artwork printed on this War Eagle Supper Club greeting card to capture the spirit of a place where everyone who went was a member. It’s funny when I first envisioned this scene it was more crowded, including more people, and more of the bar and its surroundings. And then as I worked on the original composition, I pared it back until there were just a few figures, the entrance and mural. And i felt it was important it be a night time scene since, admit it, your memories of this Auburn tradition are probably at night!

I have to admit I have been shocked at how positively this particular Auburn greeting card has been received. It seems to have struck a chord with generations of people who attended Auburn. Everyone I have spoken to has said it brings back good memories for them and that was certainly my aim. I have also had more than a few people remark on the shooting star overhead. That was sort of symbolic of a star that shines brightly before burning out and on another level an allusion to the night the stars fell on Alabama. It just seemed fitting for me!

If you have found your way here, there’s little doubt you either spent time at Auburn or you are looking for a gift for someone who did? I hope you’ll pause for a moment to share your memories of this now-absent Auburn tradition! And if you have any questions about my work, please ask away.

This greeting card is available as a single card or in packs. Each card comes with an included envelope for your use. In addition to cards you can choose other substrates such as art prints, metal or canvas. If you have any questions about the various options, just let me know.

How Can I Help?

At the end of the day, it’s important to me that you can put a face with the art you’re considering purchasing through my site. Aside from the print vendor who ultimately prints and ships your order, this is a one man show. The person who made the art is the same one who is typing this message and the one who will answer your questions if you drop me a note.

You are not a number and I care that you are happy with whatever art you might buy here. I’m here if you’d like to ask questions before or after purchasing. And I’m also happy to work with you where possible to customize the work you’re buying. Maybe you’d like a tweak to the shape of a print to fit in with your existing wall art. Or you’d like to add a little nod to someone special in it? Just ask! I also keep a running list of subjects I don’t currently have but people are seeking. So if you enjoy the style of my work but didn’t find quite what you were looking for, please do let me know.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years now and most of that time it’s been my full-time passion. And it matters to both the endorphins in my brain and the food I put on the table for me (and my cats) that you find the experience of purchasing the products offered here to be a pleasure.
