Ancient Roman Baths – Bath England Metal Print by Mark Tisdale.
This Bath England metal print features the ancient Roman Baths for which the city is so well known. During the age of Roman Britain, the site of Modern day bath was the site of a Roman settlement that centered around the springs that were sacred to the Celts. The Romans combined the Celtic god with Minerva and built a temple to Sulis Minerva between 60 and 70 AD. The Roman bathing complex built up around the temple over the next centuries. This included the Great Bath seen here. In its day this bath was covered by a barrel vaulted hall that reached a height of over 60 feet. For many visitors in ancient times, this would have been the largest covered space they’d seen.
Today everything from the column bases down is original Roman construction, but everything above was built during Victorian times when the bath was rediscovered. The Ancient Roman Baths are seen here with an atmospheric mist rising from the waters of the bath. It evokes a feeling of the mists of the centuries that have passed by here in the city of Bath in Somerset, England.
Have you visited the Ancient Roman Baths yourself? Or is your interest in this Bath England metal print simply based on a love of all things Roman?
