About This Image
Carnegie Library – Montezuma Georgia 5×7 Greeting Card by Mark Tisdale.
This Montezuma, Georgia greeting card features the old Carnegie Library. Built in 1906 in the Neoclassical style it was designed by architect T. Firth Lockwood, Jr. There are quite a few beautiful old buildings like this scattered around Alabama and Georgia that were designed by members of the Lockwood family.
Montezuma’s Carnegie Library is no longer in use as a library but remains a vital part of the community housing the Macon County Chamber of Commerce and the local historical society. Whenever I look at this image of our old library my mind goes back to the tall stacks of books and our treasured librarian, Mrs. Violet Moore. I have never known a more welcoming library. So there was a lot of love in creating the scene on this card.
