Description

This cherry blossom artwork is simply cheerful! That was my entire aim when I was working on it. I wanted a piece of artwork that was bright and cheerful with the colors of spring, and what popped into my mind was cherry blossoms. It was not simply because of the big Cherry Blossom Festival in nearby Macon, Georgia, and other cities. No, when I lived in the Atlanta area, I planted a cherry blossom tree in my yard. To be exact, it was a Yoshino Cherry – also known as the Japanese Flowering Cherry. Neighbors adjacent had the same trees around their backyard, although much more well established. Over the course of several springs to come, I watched my little tree grow and by the time I left, the top was more than double my height and spring was a showy display each year.

So, that was the story behind my cherry blossom artwork. Its roots were in the real world and my own memory. But the result is one that simply makes me smile, and I think the same can be said for others based on the responses I’ve had in the time since. It’s a print that seems to have much the same affect on others. I think so many of us respond to signs of new life and renewal. There’s something about artwork that reflects spring that’s life affirming and hopeful. Sometimes when you drag yourself out of bed on a bleak morning, a cheerful piece of art can be be the little reminder we need that be it winter or spring, life is full of promise.

I would love it if you took a moment to share what this cherry blossom artwork means to you. Does it remind you of a local cherry blossom festival? Or maybe you grow cherry trees yourself? Or does it simply bring a big grin to your face, too?
