Description

This Desiderata Poem print was something of an artistic challenge for me. If you wander through my collection of photos and other artwork, you won’t find much in the way of word-art or poems superimposed over photos. For me, the image itself is usually the whole story. Once in a blue moon I’ll do something with a small short quote. But as you can see this Desiderata poem print contains the entire poem, not just a word or two. So that’s what I mean by this being both a departure and a challenge.

I wanted an image that was strong but at the same time not distracting from the Desiderata poem itself. In other words, I wanted it to complement rather than distract from the words. In fact, the artwork that is the backdrop to this Desiderata poem print is inspired by some of the words in the poem. Specifically near the end Max Ehrmann’s poem states:

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

That concept of a “Child Of The Universe” was what inspired this little piece of inspirational art. There’s a very cosmic vibe to that line, that we are part of everything around us. That cosmic vibe forms the backdrop to this work. From the glowing golden light of the sun to the figure of the woman bathing in its light. There’s a sense of calm and peace that I felt made this an excellent companion to this Desiderata poem print.

In the end, this is a beautiful poem and I felt it deserved a beautiful piece of art to go along with it for those who want to frame these words and live by them in their daily lives. As this has become one of my more popular pieces of art, it appears that I have succeeded in matching the art to the audience for this Desiderata print.

This is one of those pieces of art that was requested by folks who follow my work. In this case, several had asked me to tackle this piece of inspirational art, so I’m pleased to have risen to the occasion. I always welcome suggestions and I would love to hear what you like about this particular poem print? Do take a moment to share in the comments or contact me.
