About This Image

Dublin Ireland Cityscape – Dusk Sky Canvas Print by Mark Tisdale.

This dusk sky canvas print features a beautiful Dublin Ireland Cityscape. There are, of course, a lot of vistas in the city featuring beautiful architecture or landmark buildings. This one features two, actually. The largest building is the 18th century Custom House. It was built in the Neoclassical style in 1791. Even at night, you may notice that the dome is not the same stone as the rest of the building. That wasn’t a design decision in the 18th century. During the 20th century quest for Irish independence, the building was bombed and the dome fell. When it was rebuilt by the new Irish government, they chose to use local stone rather than matching stone from the UK.

Slightly further down the river in this Dublin cityscape is Liberty Hall. While by comparison considerably newer it was built in the 1960’s. It stands on the site of an earlier Liberty Hall which housed the Irish Transport and General Workers Union. That trade union has since merged with another and Liberty Hall is currently the headquarters for the Services, Industrial, Professional, and Technical Union (SIPTU). Even when I visited more than a decade ago the current building was slated to be demolished and replaced. However SIPTU’s plans for a new building were rejected and it seems to be up in the air what will happen next. In my opinion, the current tower is charming even if not the newest or biggest on Dublin’s skyline today.

This dusk sky canvas print is based on photos taken from the south side of the River Liffey on my last night in Dublin some years ago. I love the little details like the reflections in the water, the sense of motion both there and on the quay in front of the Custom House where you see not only buses and cars but the light trails of ones that moved through the scene. There’s a real sense of the movement and motion of the city as night falls.

Canvas Prints – Product Information

Stretched canvas prints are a great choice for decorating your home or office. Canvas art is a classic choice that is at home in traditional and modern decor alike.

After the purchase of your canvas print, it is made to your order. The artwork is printed on an acid-free poly/cotton blend canvas. The use of archival inks and substrate means that your canvas art print should last a lifetime without fading or loss of color.

When ordering your print, you have a choice between glossy and matte finishes. While I ordinarily love matte finishes on prints, I do like the sheen that comes on glossy canvas prints. Ultimately I would suggest letting the amount of light in your space guide your choice. In a brightly lit environment, I would lean towards a matte finish to reduce the chance of glare.

There are three wrap styles to choose from for canvas prints. The mirrored wrap choice mirrors and extends the image to the sides of the canvas wrap (without losing any of the original artwork on the front). The majority of the time I would suggest this is the best choice. The other two options are a solid black wrap or white wrap. You can see a preview of each option when selecting wrap color.

After printing, the canvas is stretched over and secured to a wooden frame of 1.5″ by 1.5″ stretcher bars. The entire production process takes from 5 to 7 business days. Your artwork will arrive in sturdy packaging. The hanging wire will be attached and all hardware necessary to hang your canvas print will be included. Canvas prints are a great ready-to-hang option.
