About This Image
English Garden – St Albans 5×7 Greeting Card by Mark Tisdale.
A charming English garden scene is the subject of this St Albans greeting card. The city of St. Albans is just a short train ride out of London, but wandering streets like this it would be easy to imagine you had found yourself in a quaint English village somewhere instead of the sizable city of St Albans which boasts a population north of 80,000 people. There’s been a settlement here since Roman times – indeed Saint Alban who lived in the area in those days is the first British Saint. And obviously he is the source of the name for the city.
This English garden scene captures the way St Albans looked on a September afternoon when I visited the city. The last flush of summer color was still hanging in there and this street looked like one large country garden. There’s something about the way the English garden that I have always found eye catching. I love the layering of plants and that everything feels organic and not forced into a box. There’s just an exuberance to the plants that I believe you’ll feel when you look at the artwork on this card.
