About This Image
One of my last nights in New York, friends and I trekked across the Brooklyn Bridge just before dusk for a bite to eat and to see the city lights of Manhattan from a great vantage point! In recent years, an ongoing project began to create Brooklyn Bridge Park, of which the historic Fulton Ferry Pier, pictured here, is a part.
In point of fact, it was only after visiting here that I discovered this Fulton Ferry Landing is actually an historic spot as well as a great place to spend an evening. This is the site of New York City’s oldest ferry landing. Its history dates back to 1642, and in 1776 Washington was here as he evacuated his men after defeat at Long Island. So, the Fulton Ferry landing is a place with a great view and a rich past!
In this print, I’ve used an original photo of mine as the basis fort this historic Brooklyn landmark artwork. The building with the great tower is today an Ice Cream Factshop ry (a great treat!), but it’s origins are as a 1930’s Fireboat house. I just love how it’s white clapboards contrast with the red brick of the surrounding architecture. It has a very nautical and coastal vibe for a place in the heart of New York City! This print is quite a little slice of Americana, eh?
