About This Image

Great Blasket Island – Irish Landscape Metal Print by Mark Tisdale.

This Irish landscape metal print features the Great Blasket Island. The Blaskets are in County Kerry, Ireland. The photo this work is based on was taken by me on New Year’s Day when I visited Ireland. It was a beautifully sunny morning and the warm light hitting the Great Blasket island was a sight to see. I believe we were on Dunmore Head but I’m not positive about the location. What I remember most was the cold sea air and the bright winter sun. Rather than cold I felt invigorated and warm.

The Blasket Islands were once occupied but the last people left in the evacuation of 1953. Great Blasket was never heavily populated. Under 200 people at any time called it home. From a distance it looks beautiful but apparently it was a tough life living there and the people on the island were frequently cut off by rough seas.

But there’s a rich literary legacy of the Blasket Islands as there are three well-known books that were written in Gaelic, first hand accounts of life there in the last generation or so that called it home. I’ve read the English translation of a couple of these and they were simply fascinating. They are An tOileánach (The Islandman) by Tomás Ó Criomhthain, Peig by Peig Sayers, and Fiche Blian ag Fás (Twenty Years A-Growing) by Muiris Ó Súilleabháin. Books are still the closest thing we have to time machines.

I would love to know what captures your attention in this panoramic Great Blasket Island artwork? Have you visited the islands or seen them from a distance as I experienced them? Perhaps you simply love the rich colors of this Irish landscape metal print?

Metal Prints – Product Information

Metal prints are a contemporary and stylish choice that will arrive at your door ready to hang.

The artwork is printed on a 1/16″ thick sheet of aluminum that is then mounted on a 3/4″ thick wooden frame. The wooden frame is recessed from the edge of the print giving the appearance of a thin high-gloss metal print that appears to be offset from your wall.

Each metal print is made to your order and printed using archival quality materials that should last a lifetime. Metal prints take 5 to 7 business days to produce and are shipped directly to you in sturdy packaging.

The only decision you will have to make when ordering your metal print is how large you would like it to be.

If you encounter difficulty accessing the on-site purchase button at the top of the page, please use this button to shop directly from Pixels/Fine Art America, the vendor who handles fulfillment for these products. And please notify me!

How Can I Help?

At the end of the day, it’s important to me that you can put a face with the art you’re considering purchasing through my site. Aside from the print vendor who ultimately prints and ships your order, this is a one man show. The person who made the art is the same one who is typing this message and the one who will answer your questions if you drop me a note.

You are not a number and I care that you are happy with whatever art you might buy here. I’m here if you’d like to ask questions before or after purchasing. And I’m also happy to work with you where possible to customize the work you’re buying. Maybe you’d like a tweak to the shape of a print to fit in with your existing wall art. Or you’d like to add a little nod to someone special in it? Just ask! I also keep a running list of subjects I don’t currently have but people are seeking. So if you enjoy the style of my work but didn’t find quite what you were looking for, please do let me know.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years now and most of that time it’s been my full-time passion. And it matters to both the endorphins in my brain and the food I put on the table for me (and my cats) that you find the experience of purchasing the products offered here to be a pleasure.
