Description

Amongst my fond memories of Georgia’s largest city is Atlanta’s High Museum. I first visited this museum on a field trip in high school. It’s definitely a must-see building, both for the incredible collection housed there as well as the stunning modern architecture. Atlanta is lucky to have a world class museum, and that is because of a long history of art-minded civic leaders dating back to 1905 when the seeds for the current museum were laid.

The current High Museum, pictured here, was built in 1983 as the collection of art was outgrowing the existing facilities. The new building was designed by architect, Richard Meier, who has designed a number of well known buildings.

This photo was part of my Atlanta Icon series of prints – places that I felt were highly recognizable landmarks of the metro area. Of course, that list would probably vary from person to person, but I definitely felt that I hit some of the highlights, and the High Museum was always on the list of places I intended to capture.

The architectural lines of that building definitely are attention grabbing and memorable. I think the High Museum is a class with other international modern landmark architecture
