Description
This unique King And Queen Towers print unquestionably shows one of metro Atlanta’s most recognizable pieces of architecture. The Sandy Springs skyscrapers are actually Concourse V and VI but everyone in Atlanta seems to know them of them as The King and Queen Towers due to the distinctive structures on the pinnacle of each building. These were indeed designed to be reminiscent of the King and the Queen pieces in a chess set. This is a photograph that I’m particular proud of because it wasn’t the result of a chance accident but a story of determination. I spent some months trying to find the perfect angle for these buildings and even then it took yet more time to get the right skies!
At the time I lived and worked in Alpharetta but frequently ventured south on Georgia 400 on the weekends. And I always had my camera just in case. On this particular afternoon, I saw the clouds in the late afternoon sky and I had a feeling that day might be the day at last. I camped out in the area waiting for the golden hour of light as the sun hits the horizon. And, I hope you’ll agree that it was well worth waiting for. The late afternoon sun and those clouds truly came together to form the perfect dramatic backdrop for such a stunning pair of landmark Atlanta skyscrapers.
Even if this King and Queen Towers print had not turned out to be a popular one, I would have been proud of it just for the time it took me to get everything right. The fact it’s been popular print is simply the icing on the proverbial cake. I think there’s just something joyful in that light and, of course, the wonderful architecture of two well known and loved buildings. I know from the people I’ve heard from that they’ve gotten prints either because they’ve worked in or near these Atlanta skyscrapers. Others have said they simply love them because they remind them of living in Atlanta.
I hope you’ll take a moment to share what brought you here to check out this King And Queen Towers print? Have you lived in Sandy Springs or Dunwoody near the Concourse at Landmark Center? Worked there? Or simply, like myself, admired these grand buildings in your daily life and commute?
If you or considering getting this or any of my other landmark Atlanta prints, don’t hesitate to send me a message with your questions. I’m always happy to speak with people who enjoy my work or have questions about prints or any other topics.
