About This Image
Old Macon County Clinic – Montezuma Georgia 5×7 Greeting Card by Mark Tisdale.
This Montezuma Georgia greeting card features the Old Macon County Clinic. This was one of the hospitals that used to serve the community. It was opened in 1934 and operated by Dr. Tom Adams and Dr. Fred Adams until closing in 1974. The two story house in the right of this artwork was known as the Nurse’s Home and was where the Hospital’s nursing staff lived.
I was happily surprised by how popular the scene on this card has been with locals and people who formerly lived here. I mainly wanted to preserve a part of the community that was slipping away. The Nurse’s Home has since been demolished and the old hospital which housed a hotel for years has been empty for some time. But a lot of the people in this community still have ties to the old clinic. The reasons people have given for purchasing have ranged from having family who worked there to being born there themselves. And the great thing about a 5×7 card is not only can it be shared it can be framed as well.
