Portland Head Light In The Snow – Winter Night Canvas Print
This original winter night canvas print features historic Portland Head Light in the snow. This Maine landmark is a popular subject for art so it’s always a little daunting to tackle a subject that’s probably been photographed and painted from every angle and in every season, etc. But I genuinely love old lighthouses, so Portland Head Light was a subject I had to do at least once. I often depict lighthouses on rainy nights, and maybe some day I will do another of Portland Head Light like that, but right now, it’s winter and I love the magic of snow blanketing the earth so I thought a snowy night scene would be perfect. I feel like you can almost see your breath when you look at this wintry view of Portland Head Light. Yet there’s something particularly warming about the golden glow of the lighthouse and the windows of the keeper’s cottage.
And there have probably been many winter nights where you could have seen Portland Head Light in the snow as depicted here. After all, it’s Maine’s oldest lighthouse. It was completed in 1791 and was commissioned by none other than George Washington. Although still an active nautical beacon, the light was automated in 1989. The keeper’s cottage has since been put into use as a maritime museum. The light was added to the United States National Register of Historic Places in 1973. So there’s no question it’s got a long and pedigreed past.
What attracted you to this Portland Head light canvas print? Were you looking for a print featuring Maine in the snow? I hope you’ll share what catches your attention most in this wintry artwork of the historic Portland Head Light.
Canvas Prints – Product Information
Stretched canvas prints are a great choice for decorating your home or office. Canvas art is a classic choice that is at home in traditional and modern decor alike.
After the purchase of your canvas print, it is made to your order. The artwork is printed on an acid-free poly/cotton blend canvas. The use of archival inks and substrate means that your canvas art print should last a lifetime without fading or loss of color.
When ordering your print, you have a choice between glossy and matte finishes. While I ordinarily love matte finishes on prints, I do like the sheen that comes on glossy canvas prints. Ultimately I would suggest letting the amount of light in your space guide your choice. In a brightly lit environment, I would lean towards a matte finish to reduce the chance of glare.
There are three wrap styles to choose from for canvas prints. The mirrored wrap choice mirrors and extends the image to the sides of the canvas wrap (without losing any of the original artwork on the front). The majority of the time I would suggest this is the best choice. The other two options are a solid black wrap or white wrap. You can see a preview of each option when selecting wrap color.
After printing, the canvas is stretched over and secured to a wooden frame of 1.5″ by 1.5″ stretcher bars. The entire production process takes from 5 to 7 business days. Your artwork will arrive in sturdy packaging. The hanging wire will be attached and all hardware necessary to hang your canvas print will be included. Canvas prints are a great ready-to-hang option.
