About This Image

I still look back at scenes from the Royal Mile with a very strong sense of nostalgia for Edinburgh. Even though I’ve been twice, Auld Reekie high on my list of places to revisit. If you’ve been or listened to friends who’ve been discuss Edinburgh, you likely understand that sense of longing for that quaint and historic city.

This piece of photo art is based on a moment photographed on one of my nights wandering along the Mile. This scene is at the intersection of High Street, Canongate and St. Mary’s Street, an area once known as the World’s End when the medieval city walls of the old town stood here. It was this spot where those walls were the dividing line between within and without. Residents of Old Edinburgh considered this the end of the world. And that’s the point of reference for the whimsically named World’s End pub on the corner!

The architecture in Edinburgh’s old town is a great mix of medieval and newer architecture but it all looks very Old World European, don’t you think? The tenement buildings seen here are in the Scots Baronial architectural style. And they are on the Scottish historic register. In fact, Edinburgh’s Old and New Town are UNESCO listed. Is it any surprise?

What I personally love most about this painterly street scene is the mix of colors, the dusk blues in the sky, the grays and all the hues of orange and gold. This print is a vibrant take on Edinburgh at night, eh? I almost feel like I could cross over and join the people heading into the World’s End pub. It’s very much like being back on the Royal Mile as night falls again. And I believe that’s more than my own nostalgia at work.

How Can I Help?

At the end of the day, it’s important to me that you can put a face with the art you’re considering purchasing through my site. Aside from the print vendor who ultimately prints and ships your order, this is a one man show. The person who made the art is the same one who is typing this message and the one who will answer your questions if you drop me a note.

You are not a number and I care that you are happy with whatever art you might buy here. I’m here if you’d like to ask questions before or after purchasing. And I’m also happy to work with you where possible to customize the work you’re buying. Maybe you’d like a tweak to the shape of a print to fit in with your existing wall art. Or you’d like to add a little nod to someone special in it? Just ask! I also keep a running list of subjects I don’t currently have but people are seeking. So if you enjoy the style of my work but didn’t find quite what you were looking for, please do let me know.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years now and most of that time it’s been my full-time passion. And it matters to both the endorphins in my brain and the food I put on the table for me (and my cats) that you find the experience of purchasing the products offered here to be a pleasure.
