About This Image
Timmerman Building – Andalusia First National Bank Canvas Print by Mark Tisdale
This canvas print features a depiction of what was known as the Timmerman Building when my mother was growing up in Andalusia. It started life as the First National Bank building, but despite the name she knew it by is how I’ve come to know it. This piece of historic Andalusia with its trademark clock was a crumbling landmark much of my life, a shadow of the building my mother knew.
So I was thrilled to read when the city purchased it with plans not to demolish it but to renovate it as part of their continuing (and I would say successful) effort to revitalize the core of historic Andalusia. I see so many towns and small cities with crumbling downtown districts that it’s a pleasure to see the ones who are trying to make old structures work in a changing world. That article was what originally prompted me to do this particular Andalusia First National Bank canvas print. I wanted this piece to have a sense of history, and perhaps, for a change, not just a sense of what it was like back when but what it may be like again.
Do you have a connection with the old Timmerman Building? Perhaps family members once worked in the First National Bank Building? Or you simply love heritage architecture or historic Andalusia? I would love to know what brought you to this particular Andalusia canvas print and hope you will take a few moments from your day to share your thoughts or questions.
Note: The First National Bank Building is on the US National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by architect Frank Lockwood who also designed the Andalusia courthouse.
Canvas Prints – Product Information
Stretched canvas prints are a great choice for decorating your home or office. Canvas art is a classic choice that is at home in traditional and modern decor alike.
After the purchase of your canvas print, it is made to your order. The artwork is printed on an acid-free poly/cotton blend canvas. The use of archival inks and substrate means that your canvas art print should last a lifetime without fading or loss of color.
When ordering your print, you have a choice between glossy and matte finishes. While I ordinarily love matte finishes on prints, I do like the sheen that comes on glossy canvas prints. Ultimately I would suggest letting the amount of light in your space guide your choice. In a brightly lit environment, I would lean towards a matte finish to reduce the chance of glare.
There are three wrap styles to choose from for canvas prints. The mirrored wrap choice mirrors and extends the image to the sides of the canvas wrap (without losing any of the original artwork on the front). The majority of the time I would suggest this is the best choice. The other two options are a solid black wrap or white wrap. You can see a preview of each option when selecting wrap color.
After printing, the canvas is stretched over and secured to a wooden frame of 1.5″ by 1.5″ stretcher bars. The entire production process takes from 5 to 7 business days. Your artwork will arrive in sturdy packaging. The hanging wire will be attached and all hardware necessary to hang your canvas print will be included. Canvas prints are a great ready-to-hang option.
