About This Image

Toomer’s Corner Evening Rain – Auburn Canvas Print by Mark Tisdale.

This Auburn canvas print features a depiction of an enchanting evening rain at Toomer’s Corner. I suspect if you’re checking out this particular print you either spent time at Auburn or you’re shopping for someone who did. Auburn is a favorite art subject that’s nostalgia driven for me as well.

We often hit moments in life where looking back is maybe a bit rose colored but no less sweet. My years in Auburn were good years. I look back at fledgling steps away from home and some friends that have remained in my life every since. I have little doubt if you’re here you have similar fond connections to Auburn University. In my case, my I can say that despite not actually finishing the graduate degree I was working on there. Life had other plans as it often does! But that chapter was golden for me.

That partially explains the reverence for the subject in this rainy evening artwork. It is of course, an Auburn landmark, Toomer’s Corner. The rest of the inspiration was actually received in an email from someone who follows my work. She was quite taken with my depiction of Dublin in the rain from earlier this year. And she hoped I would do something similar featuring Auburn. Once that seed was planted, it was off to the races. I knew immediately the subject would be Toomer’s Corner. Even though I’ve already done a Toomer’s canvas print, I was happy to add another.

I’m so glad the suggestion was made! That’s why I always welcome suggestions. I can’t say that every one of them will be something I do the next day but I do file them all away for future inspiration. Sometimes the ideas take awhile to percolate in some dark corner of my mind before it comes into focus. In this case, however, I had pretty much this scene in mind from the start. I wanted to show the street lights and buildings on Toomer’s Corner in Auburn reflecting on the wet surfaces.

For me, there’s a tranquility in my rain art. And I’ve had more than one person comment that my rainy canvas prints generally have a cheerful sense to them. I know some might expect rainy night art to be darker than this. I think, for me, the rain is more in the literary sense. I recall a long ago English class where the professor explained how water and rain are often used as literary devices for a turning point in a story where the protagonist washes away their old self and the story moves onward. Sure enough I’ve seen that same plot device used in films throughout the years and always think of Dr. Norton. To me this is a renewing rain. Everything is clean and new again in this Auburn canvas print featuring Toomer’s Corner.

So I would love if you took a moment and shared what this Auburn canvas print means to you? I’ve had some on social media say it reminded them of dodging rain drops on the way to class in Auburn. And I can well remember that, too. Some who have never experienced the Loveliest Village On The Plains simply loved it for the beauty of the moment I captured. But I always love to hear what captures the attention of each individual. So do leave a comment or drop me a note!

Canvas Prints – Product Information

Stretched canvas prints are a great choice for decorating your home or office. Canvas art is a classic choice that is at home in traditional and modern decor alike.

After the purchase of your canvas print, it is made to your order. The artwork is printed on an acid-free poly/cotton blend canvas. The use of archival inks and substrate means that your canvas art print should last a lifetime without fading or loss of color.

When ordering your print, you have a choice between glossy and matte finishes. While I ordinarily love matte finishes on prints, I do like the sheen that comes on glossy canvas prints. Ultimately I would suggest letting the amount of light in your space guide your choice. In a brightly lit environment, I would lean towards a matte finish to reduce the chance of glare.

There are three wrap styles to choose from for canvas prints. The mirrored wrap choice mirrors and extends the image to the sides of the canvas wrap (without losing any of the original artwork on the front). The majority of the time I would suggest this is the best choice. The other two options are a solid black wrap or white wrap. You can see a preview of each option when selecting wrap color.

After printing, the canvas is stretched over and secured to a wooden frame of 1.5″ by 1.5″ stretcher bars. The entire production process takes from 5 to 7 business days. Your artwork will arrive in sturdy packaging. The hanging wire will be attached and all hardware necessary to hang your canvas print will be included. Canvas prints are a great ready-to-hang option.
