Vintage Empire State Building – New York City Canvas Print by Mark Tisdale.
This New York City canvas print features a vintage Empire state Building on a rainy night. It’s based on an old black and white photo of New York City at night taken circa 1937. When I saw this night time view, I was inspired to create this rainy night view of the city lights of New York City on a night long ago. With a view of that landmark building, it feels identifiably NYC but the Manhattan skyline has, of course, grown in the decades since. So it’s a younger New York than the one we know now. It feels something like a time machine view, doesn’t it? It’s hard to imagine but the Empire State Building in this artwork is basically new – construction of the skyscraper was completed in 1931.
What attracted you to this particular New York city canvas print? Do you love architecture? Vintage views from days gone by? Or is it down to the mood in this aerial view of the NYC skyline as the rain falls? I hope you’ll share your thoughts.
The Empire State Building was added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It was the world’s tallest building from its completion in 1931 until 1970. It’s a beautiful building that is truly worthy of being called a landmark.
