Salem was an easy day trip out of Boston and was everything I had expected down to the Classic New England homes that lined the streets of the historic village. I had been to Massachusetts before but on that trip I hadn’t explored any further than Boston. There are after all a wealth of things to do in Boston itself. But on that sunny but cold winter day in Salem, I wished I had planned to be in Salem more on my second trip. It definitely fit my mental image of quaint and historic New England.
Salem is probably most well known for the Witch Trials of the 1600’s, but with any city that old, there’s far more to it than that one period in history. It was once a major port city and the classic New England homes that still line the streets attest to that past prosperity. I stumbled over this beautiful old Georgian on Turner Street as I strolled around Salem. It was absolutely bathed in beautiful winter sunlight that seemed to pick out every detail on that rambling old house and its neighbors on that quiet Salem Street.
I think I was particularly drawn to this Classic New England Home because of the textures on that old siding. All that weathered, chipping paint really speaks of the rough New England weather and the salt air. Every crack feels like a chapter in a book about life on the seaside in New England, don’t you think?
Have you also taken a stroll in Salem on a sunny winter day? Perhaps this print has that classic New England vibe you’re looking for? I would love if you take a second to share what speaks to you most in this Salem print!
