On one of my last day in Scotland I found myself on a short train ride from Edinburgh. I wanted to see the Scottish coast once more before heading home. And as the fates aligned, it was definitely a great day for it. Look at the beautiful skies in this print of the North Berwick seaside!
Being winter, of course, the beach and town, apparently quite popular in the summer, was almost empty. Normally, I like the human element of people in a scene, but in this case I think that has made my photos of North Berwick’s beach and harbor almost hauntingly beautiful.
The harbor is the stretch of buildings in the center of this Landscape print of the North Sea. I loved the hodgepodge styles and colors of all those buildings on the docks at Harbour Terrace. It just really gave me a sense for what life must have been like here when this village was about making your living on the sea rather than seaside holiday-makers.
Even in winter I understood the lure of this place across the ages for those who love the sea. I still look at this picture and I feel the cold crisp salt air on my skin and smell the salt breeze off the sea. Can’t you?
There’s just something magical about the sea for me, and doubly so for the Scottish seaside. My day wandering around the streets and beaches at North Berwick remains a highlight of my last trip to Scotland. Such a beautiful winter day made for some incredibly colorful vistas as you can see.
