About This Image

This unique Tardis print was an inevitable piece of Doctor Who art for me. The exact scene took a long time to dream up, but I’ve wanted to do an homage to one of my favorite shows for some time now. I started following the adventures of our favorite Time Lord on PBS in the mid 80’s. The first serial I saw was a Tom Baker one called The Pyramid of Mars. And I was hooked from the start. At that point, I knew none of the history of Doctor Who. I didn’t know how long it had been around already nor that the main character could regenerate thus allowing him to go on to be played by a string of actors. When the show went into hiatus I had no idea I’d find myself following new adventures of the Doctor in the 21st century but as a long time fan, it’s been a pleasure!

Of late, I’ve gotten quite fond of doing rainy night scenes like the one in this Tardis print. If you haven’t followed my work before, I hope you’ll take a moment to look at more of it. I love doing rainy reflection art and that was the first part of this Doctor who art to appear in my mind’s eye. I wanted to see that familiar blue police box reflecting in wet pavement. The hard part was picking a spot. Well, I sort of knew from the start it would either be London or some place unidentifiable. I never envisioned alien worlds or other locations. Even though the Doctor’s adventures have taken him to amazing places, I just picture the Tardis on London streets. And the familiar view across the Thames to Westminster palace finally came to be the chosen spot. With a view like that on a rainy night, there’s no question this is London is it?

The end result is a Tardis print that reminds me both of my love for Doctor Who as well as London. There was a lot of reminiscing about past trips over as well as dreams of getting the chance to go back some day. If you love London and Doctor who as much as I do, I think you’ll love this Tardis print. To me they are both characters in this artwork. In a sense, the Tardis is the only constant character in the history of Doctor Who. All of the actors change, the show producers change, and yes, the Tardis has also changed a bit over the years but from the outside it’s still recognizable as the same Type 40 time capsule that has taken the Doctor on so many adventures.

This Doctor Who art is available like all of my prints in a variety of sizes from quite small to large and printed on your choice of substrate. You can order prints ready for framing or wall art ready to hang including classic canvas prints, contemporary metal prints, framed wall art and more. If you have any questions about this print or your choices to purchase your print, please send me a message and I’ll be glad to reply.
