Birmingham Alabama Skyline Art – Chalkboard Silhouette Canvas Print by Mark Tisdale

This chalkboard silhouette canvas print features the Birmingham Alabama skyline. As you can see it isn’t a literal interpretation of the skyline. Rather it’s a symbolic interpretation – an attempt at capturing the spirit, history and landmarks of the city.

Featured among the landmarks is the Sloss Furnaces which were a major part of Birmingham, Alabama’s history as an industrial American city. Also a monument to that industrial past is the Vulcan statue. And a symbol of the city and the state is the sign from the front of the Alabama theatre. The rest of the Birmingham skyline silhouette includes a collection of skyscrapers both historic and modern. As a group, this print captures the story of Birmingham, Alabama in an artful way.

This Birmingham skyline canvas print is part of a series I did featuring the same set of silhouettes which you can find here on my site. Where my other Birmingham skyline canvas prints are very colorful, I wanted to create one silhouette that would give you a more neutral but nonetheless dramatic image! There’s something about monotone images that really delivers a punch! So this variation on the them shows Birmingham in black and white in a chalkboard style.

In the time since I did this, it’s been my pleasure that this Birmingham Alabama skyline canvas print has turned out to be a popular one. I’ve heard from a few Birmingham natives who purchased prints as a reminder of home. I suspect some others may have gone to people who were looking for gifts for friends or family who had moved away but wanted to take a little bit of Birmingham, Alabama, with them.

If you’ve purchased this Birmingham chalkboard silhouette canvas print or are considering it, I would love to hear your reasons for selecting it. Does it capture your city for you? Maybe there’s a particular landmark in the print that has a special meaning for you? Whatever it is, I hope you’ll pause to share your thoughts and questions. You may also send me a message about this or any of my other prints if you’d like. It’s always a pleasure to answer questions or simply discuss your thoughts!
