Blond Cowboy – Fun Gay Metal Print by Mark Tisdale

This fun gay metal print features a depiction of a blond cowboy with a colorful abstract background that echoes the colors of the rainbow pride flag. In fact I created this piece during pride month of 2023, which was a special year for me as it was the year I came out. This was actually the first year that I created any art with gay themes, and in a way it was part of my coming out process. I wrote a little more about that in my blog if you are interested.

I went in a fun pop art direction with this artwork. The pink gum bubble is a motif you frequently see in pop art with people or celebrities. In this case the blond cowboy is not a specific person but I would say it’s probably a little inspired by John Schneider in his role as Bo Duke in my childhood years. I think that poster on my bedroom wall may have had more impact on one of the male archetypes I find attractive, you know? Maybe you have similar childhood memories that you saw different later or even then?

This gay cowboy metal print includes the familiar rainbow flag on his cheek – a nod to the celebratory makeup you sometimes see at Pride events. And of course it’s a declaration of pride in itself
