Description

Cape Florida Light – Key Biscayne Metal Print by Mark Tisdale.

This Key Biscayne metal print features the Cape Florida Light. This historic lighthouse was constructed in 1825. The lighthouse operated until 1878 when it was replaced by another lighthouse. A century later it was briefly re-activated to mark the Florida Channel into Biscayne Bay. This period of operation lasted from 1978 to 1990 when the Cape Florida Light was again deactivated. The lighthouse was restored in the 1990’s and re-lit in 1996. Today it stands in the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park where the lighthouse and an adjacent museum operate to educate the public about the Maritime history of the Miami-Dade region.

This lighthouse was a subject recommended to me by a follower and I had a strong yen for palm trees right now so I was happy to do something with a bit of a tropical vibe. I would love to hear what attracted you to this lighthouse metal print? Are you familiar with the Cape Florida Light? Or do you simply love lighthouses or tropical scenery? I hope you’ll share your thoughts.
