The artwork on this Sun Studio greeting card features Memphis at night with the landmark building taking center stage in this artwork. Because there’s an ethereal quality to it, my name for this artwork is Ghosts of Memphis. And surely if there was a haunted corner of Memphis, one suspects it would be Sun Studio where some of the legends of 20th century music like Elvis Presley recorded some great music.

I love night time scenes and the varying colors of city lights. There’s something magical and otherworldly about the night. And honestly it’s hard not to combine the ethereal realm of ghosts with magic for me personally. And if there was a place that would have its share of ghosts it would be  place with the energy of Sun Studio. Just think of all the creative juice from this place over the decades!

Sun Studio after all is where not only Rock ‘N’ Roll was born but where R&B and Rockabilly to name just a couple more genres started out. And I feel like the image on this colorful Sun Studio greeting card pays some respect to the colorful lives that passed through there.

It should be of no surprise that this humble building in the heart of Memphis is on the National Register of Historic places. Because of its legendary status, it’s still a big draw for many music fans today. Both those who lived through this era of music and many more. Which camp do you fall into?
