Description

Custom House – Dublin Black And White Canvas Print by Mark Tisdale.

This Dublin black and white canvas print features the impressive neoclassical architecture of the 18th century Custom House. This impressive building faces the River Liffey in historic central Dublin, Ireland. It was built decades after a previous Custom House was erected there. Its purpose was to collect tax on ships coming into the port at Dublin. As ships grew larger, the port of Dublin moved further down river and the historic Custom House was no longer fit for purpose. Other government offices were located there.

During the 20th century war for independence from the British, Irish forces burned the Custom House. The interior was destroyed and the dome collapsed. In the years that follow the Custom House was rebuilt and houses Irish government offices today.

I’m more well known for my color prints, but I love black and white art. I think architecture in particularly can be particularly striking in a monotone color scheme. It really highlights the striking details of the Neoclassical architecture of Dublin’s Custom House, doesn’t it?

What do you think of this black and white canvas print? What caught your eyes when you saw this Dublin scene? I would love to hear what attracted you to this?
