The subject of this Montezuma Georgia canvas print is the 1899 First Baptist Church. This historic building was built in brick following the Romanesque Revival style of architecture. The congregation itself dates to the early 1880’s.

The First Baptist Church building appears to be the oldest church in Montezuma’s historic district. Its solid presence on North Dooly Street is certainly a familiar sight to anyone who has lived in the town. Personally, I’ve always appreciated the non-symmetrical tower entrances that flank the large stained glass windows.
