About This Image

The first time I had a real taste of the Mayan Mystery was standing before the Temple of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza some years ago. I had long been interested in the Mesoamerican cultures and the artifacts they left behind, but no amount of reading seems to prepare one for the feeling of standing before those massive Mayan pyramids. And Chichen Itza was my first real-life taste of the Maya. I’ve been to several of their ancient cities in Mexico since then, but the Mayan Mystery endures no matter how many you see.

I have visited Chichen Itza twice now and it was no less majestic for having seen it before. It’s truly one of those ancient ruins that I would visit again and again given the chance. I think there’s a reason that the great pyramid known to many as El Castillo has captured our collective imaginations. It feels like the epitome of the Mayan mystery. And that was what influenced this particular artwork. I wanted to convey that since of not just scale but the sense that there’s a magic to this place. It’s something you sense standing there but I wanted it to be front and center in this vintage style print of those Mayan ruins.

Chances are if you’ve been to Cancun or Playa del Carmen, you’ve sampled the Mayan Mystery firsthand either at Chichen Itza or at Tulum. And I don’t doubt you left with that same sense of wonder particularly if you have stood before the great pyramid at Chichen Itza on a hot summer day. Or even a hot winter day as I experienced on my second visit. These are the ruins of a culture that flourished in the tropics after all!

Have you stood before the Temple of Kukulkan? Or have you simply been amazed by the Mayan mystery from afar? Whether or not you’ve been, if you love the mystery of ancient cultures, I suspect this print speaks to you as loudly as it does to me. I hope you’ll take a moment to share what catches your attention most in this particular Chichen Itza print?

Note: The ruins of Chichen Itza are a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site.

How Can I Help?

At the end of the day, it’s important to me that you can put a face with the art you’re considering purchasing through my site. Aside from the print vendor who ultimately prints and ships your order, this is a one man show. The person who made the art is the same one who is typing this message and the one who will answer your questions if you drop me a note.

You are not a number and I care that you are happy with whatever art you might buy here. I’m here if you’d like to ask questions before or after purchasing. And I’m also happy to work with you where possible to customize the work you’re buying. Maybe you’d like a tweak to the shape of a print to fit in with your existing wall art. Or you’d like to add a little nod to someone special in it? Just ask! I also keep a running list of subjects I don’t currently have but people are seeking. So if you enjoy the style of my work but didn’t find quite what you were looking for, please do let me know.

I’ve been an artist for 15 years now and most of that time it’s been my full-time passion. And it matters to both the endorphins in my brain and the food I put on the table for me (and my cats) that you find the experience of purchasing the products offered here to be a pleasure.
