Sea Of Cortez – Rocky Point Mexico Sunset Art

A trip to Rocky Point Mexico over a decade ago was my first taste of life south of the border. I was going with new-found friends to see one of my favorite bands play. Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers are still doing an annual show in Rocky Point Mexico every year but it’s been years since I’ve managed to follow them there again. But that first magical trip lead to more travels in Mexico. There was something about the culture and the land that has called me back.

My first actual sunset in Mexico was seen from the backseat of a car on a highway bound for Rocky Point Mexico from Arizona. The sight of the sun setting behind the cacti of the Sonoran desert was amazing, but the sunset the following night from our balcony in Puerto Peñasco was far more relaxing.

I’ll never forget that first sunset on the Sea of Cortez and my first time seeing the west coast in fact. The colors were off-the-charts perfect and there was simply an amazing relaxed vibe. Rocky Point Mexico was just what the doctor ordered and I completely understood why it was a popular haunt for some from that corner of the US. I’m sure I would visit there more if it was on my back porch!

This sunset artwork is based off my memories and photos of that first sunset in Rocky Point Mexico. The colors are taken directly from my now long ago snapshots from my first digital camera. Although honestly those bold colors are still so vivid in my memory that I could have done this one from heart. I can still remember the warm light and the ocean breeze and wishing I never had to go back to the real world!
