The picture used for this print from my first trip to New York City was ironically inspired by taking off my glasses for a second and looking down a street. I’m fairly near sighted and this photo of the city lights is very close to what I saw without any sort of visual correction. It’s a world full of lights and color but very little definition.

It was very much that light bulb going off moment of inspiration in which I realized I could do an abstract city lights print with very much the same effect. I set my camera on manual focus and purposefully threw everything out of focus. If those of you who are lucky enough to have 20/20 vision ever wondered, this is how some of us see our shared world without the benefit of glasses.

In an odd way, it’s a beautiful way to see things if you’re looking at something like the city lights of Manhattan! Very pretty in a very abstract sense but maybe not as practical as one would like.

I’m very happy to be able to put on my glasses and see the world in a clear form, and to read and take photos, but I hope this abstract print  of the colorful city lights in New York City is as interesting and pretty to others of you.
