Paris Art

It took me two attempts to see Paris. I was originally going to spend a few days there in 2008 as part of a trip to London but my plans were derailed by a fire in the Channel Tunnel. Two more years would pass before I realized my plans to see Paris at last. Coming off a month in Ireland, those five nights in Paris flew past in the blink of an eye, but it was an incredible experience.

I do not say it lightly as I adore some of the other cities I have visited over the years, but Paris is without a doubt the most photogenic place I have been. And I honestly cannot put my finger on the reason. Is it the relatively uniform height of the buildings that make up the historic core of Paris? The beautiful mix of historic architecture from French Renaissance straight through to Art Nouveau? Perhaps it is the landmark buildings like the Louvre, the iconic Eiffel Tower, and Notre Dame? Or maybe it is simply that I am describing the extensive recipe for a picturesque city such as Paris?

I am not sure what the explanation is, but I had some incredibly sunlight while I was there (in winter no less) and that combined with the scenic vistas that abound in Paris… well, the result is an incredibly catalog of Paris art prints that still boggle my mind. I am not sure that I have ever been so productive as an artist over the course of five nights anywhere.

And Paris is one of those photogenic cities that seems to call to artists everywhere. It is truly a challenge to find anything new to say about a city that has probably been painted and photographed from every angle imaginable. The fact that there is a sea of beautiful Paris wall art for sale out there makes me so proud that my Paris art prints have found an audience. It is definitely a compliment to my work as an artist every time someone choose one of these prints to hang on their walls.

So thank you to my Paris art patrons past, present, and future!

    $24.00

During my brief stay in Paris, I stayed in Montmartre at the base of the hill leading up to the beautiful basilica of Sacré-Cœur. Each day, on my way out to explore Paris, I glanced up the hill to that gleaming travertine church at the top. In a way, I guess it being right there…

Baroque Grandeur of Paris – Institut de France Art Print

    $24.00

Paris at night is simply spectacular. On my first night there, I roamed the length of the Seine from Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower. As I arrived after dark, I was somewhat blindly walking those historic river banks knowing only the start and the end of the trip. But even if I didn’t know…

  • Notre Dame by Lamplight art by Mark Tisdale

Notre Dame By Lamplight – Paris at Night Art

    $24.00

My flight leaving Ireland for Paris was delayed and the winter days are so short. By the time I got checked in and headed out to really see Paris, night had fallen. On my first stop in Paris, I got to see Notre Dame by lamplight. On a winter night, it felt absolutely magical! Despite…

  • Parisian Cherub on the Pont Alexandre III Bridge over the Seine - Paris Print by Mark Tisdale

Beautiful Parisian Cherub – Pont Alexandre III Art

    $24.00

This beautiful Parisian Cherub is a decoration from the Pont Alexandre III. I was so overwhelmed by the ornate bridge that I don’t think I ever took in the whole bridge properly. There were just so many details to examine. This Parisian Cherub riding a sea monster is actually one of the more humble pieces…

  • The Louvre on the River Seine - Paris Panorama Print by Mark Tisdale

Paris Panorama – Louvre Art Print

    $24.00

Sometimes Paris feels like one big beautiful blur when I look back on my five nights there. With so little time and so much to see, I basically was on the move constantly. I walked the banks of the Seine seen in this Paris panorama print so many times I lost count. Those historic river…

  • Eiffel Tower and Joan Of Arc Statue - Paris Landmark Print by Mark Tisdale

Eiffel Tower – Paris Landmark Art Print

    $24.00

Can you imagine Paris without the Eiffel Tower? I bet not! It’s probably the singe Paris landmark that is literally known around the world. Show someone on the other side of the earth a picture of the Eiffel Tower rising into the sky and they will recognize it. That’s not an easy level of fame…

Seine Cruise – Notre Dame Cathedral Art

When I look at this print of a Seine Cruise boat passing by Notre Dame Cathedral, I feel like there’s a small hole in my Parisian experience. I walked the length of the Seine from just past Notre Dame de Paris to a bit past the Eiffel Tower over and over during my stay in…

  • The Pont Des Arts Outside The Louvre - Paris City Scene Print by Mark Tisdale

Parisian Style On The Pont des Arts – City Life Art Print

    $24.00

There’s simply something very Parisian to me about this print of a winter afternoon relaxing on the Pont des Arts over the river Seine in Paris. I think in some small part it may be because it mirrored my own Parisian experience in some way. I had spent a long day wandering in Paris. The…

  • Paris At Night Print by Mark Tisdale - Left Bank Of The Seine Near Notre Dame

Paris At Night – Left Bank Art Print

    $24.00

Normally when I arrive in a new city, I try to get there as early in the day as possible, but when I left Ireland bound for Paris, that was not to be. Thick fog in Dublin delayed flights and it was winter when the daylight hours are short to start with. By the time…

  • Bored Gargoyle on The Roof Of Notre Dame Overlooking Paris Print by Mark Tisdale

Bored Gargoyle – Paris Cityscape From Notre Dame Art

    $24.00

I read that most of the Gargoyles on our modern day Notre Dame, although historically accurate, are not original. Most of the gargoyles had been lost to the ravages of time and changing tastes. I don’t know whether this bored gargoyle is an original medieval design or part of the 19th century renovations, but his…

  • Paris Angel in Père-Lachaise cemetery - Art Nouveau design print by Mark Tisdale

Paris Angel – Guardian of Père-Lachaise Cemetery Art

    $24.00

It’s hardly a secret that I am drawn to cemeteries on my travels. The older and more beautiful the better. I particularly love cemeteries from the 19th century when they were built as park-like settings. Père-Lachaise in Paris definitely falls into that category. The amount of art like this Art Nouveau Paris Angel that one…

  • Streets of Paris leading to The Eiffel Tower - Paris Print by Mark Tisdale

Unmistakable Streets of Paris – Eiffel Tower Art

    $24.00

On one of my last days there, I scoured the streets of Paris surrounding the landmark Eiffel Tower. I had a vision in my mind of an image with it rising above the streets of Paris. I never quite found that vantage point. I have a distinct feeling the image in my minds eye would…

If you’ve ever walked up the huge hill in Montmartre to visit Sacré Coeur, then this print may well remind you of the sight that greeted you at the top of the highest hill in Paris. Even though I stayed in Montmartre while I was in Paris, it was a few days before I built…

  • Le Pont Royal And the Louvre - Paris Architecture Print by Mark Tisdale

Le Pont Royal And The Louvre – Paris Architecture Print

    $24.00

I’ve said it many times, but without a doubt Paris was one of the most picturesque places I’ve been. There’s just an unusual harmony to Paris architecture. Even though it spans the ages, it all seems to fit together just right. One can certainly tell that there’s been thought to the aesthetics in the old…

  • Notre Dame de Paris rising Above the Seine on a sunny day - Print by Mark Tisdale

Notre Dame de Paris Rising Over The Seine Art Print

    $24.00

One of the most striking sights in Paris is not doubt seeing the beautiful French Gothic architecture of Notre Dame de Paris rising above the waters of the Seine. It’s one of the first places I went in Paris on my first night there. And its beauty has stuck with me long since. On this…

  • Art print of the Louvre Museum Courtyard on a beautiful afternoon in Paris

Beautiful Afternoon At The Louvre Museum – Paris Art

    $24.00

The Louvre Museum started life as a Medieval Fortress and evolved into a French Renaissance Palace. That’s the skin of what we see when we look at the beautiful exterior, but, of course, what’s inside is an amazing art collection. And in the 1980’s when they needed to build a new way to move crowds…

  • La Samaritaine and the Pont Neuf - Paris France Print by Mark Tisdale

Pont Neuf View Of La Samaritaine – Paris Art

Considering I was only in Paris for five nights, I was incredibly lucky not just for the number of sunny days I had in the midst of winter but for the fantastic quality of that light. This photo is an example of just how powerful that light was. And of course, I’ve said many times…

  • Notre Dame Gargoyle on the Paris Skyline - Print by Mark Tisdale

Guardian of Paris – Notre Dame Gargoyle Art

    $24.00

Like a great many things in a city as picturesque as Paris, photos of a Notre Dame Gargoyle overlooking the city are admittedly nothing new. Still, I had a feeling I was onto something with my composition when I saw a line of tourists behind me, cameras in hand, ready to try for the same…

  • Eiffel Tower - Impressionistic Paris Print by Mark Tisdale - River Seine

Paris In Pastel – Impressionistic Art

    $24.00

I don’t know how a city could have a soul, but I equally don’t know how Paris could not. And it’s an artistic soul no doubt. How many art movements were born along the Seine? Perhaps that’s why this piece is suitably impressionistic in nature? After all that movement came to be amongst the artists…
